History
Our history began with the founding of Universitas Islam Kyai Mojo (UIM) in 1983. As higher education in Indonesia developed, in 1989 it was renamed Universitas Islam Batik Surakarta, commonly known as UNIBA Surakarta.
To date, Universitas Islam Batik Surakarta has successfully produced more than 8,000 bachelor's and master's graduates. In 2020, the university was selected to receive a grant to implement the Merdeka Belajar–Kampus Merdeka programme from the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. The Kampus Merdeka programme gives students the opportunity to gain broader learning experiences and new competences through learning activities outside the campus, such as student exchanges, internships, research, independent projects, humanitarian projects, and thematic community service.
On its way to becoming a globally competitive campus, Universitas Islam Batik Surakarta has achieved many accomplishments and continues to collaborate and build partnerships with industry, government, and private institutions at national and international levels. Academic and non-academic innovation will always be championed as part of its contribution to the advancement of education in Indonesia.
Today, Universitas Islam Batik Surakarta continues to grow and improve the quality of its education by accelerating the development and addition of Bachelor's and Master's programmes in line with the mission of the Kampus Merdeka programme. Good synergy within the academic community is expected to foster competitive awareness among students.
Universitas Islam Batik Surakarta moves forward with faith, reaching for dreams, building achievements, and bringing benefit to society, the nation, and the state.
